Grunau, Austria

24th, 25th, 26th of September

Today we woke up early and I made us all pancakes! Aw yeah! We jumped on the bus the the wonderful Grunau, a tiny little town in the Austrian Alps! We had heard good things about this place, but nothing prepared us for The Tree House Backpacker Hotel. It's run b this wonderful man named Gerhard and his family. They made us feel so incredibly welcome. We had a lasagna lunch as soon as we arrived and I almost cried because I hadn't had a home cooked meal since Colorado and I hadn't eaten meat in FOREVER! There were about 10 other people staying in the hostel with us, all of them linked to busabout (either currently with busabout or returning after a coming last trip with busabout) including our roommate Jo who had been here for a week! I made friends with the cat Lisle and napped all afternoon.

In the evening we had another home cooked meal o with meat, vege and carbs and almost wept with happiness once more.We hung out and watched movies into the early hours of the morning!

The next day we had breakfast at our hostel and set out on a ride to the lake. A two hour round trip they said. It will be fast they said. It will be fun they said.

It must have taken us at least three hours to ride there. Luckily the scenery was nice!! So much pain, but man, once we got there, it was worth it!

So far.

When we reached the lake, it almost cried with happiness again (i seem to be doing that rather a lot here). It was like a postcard. So incredibly beautiful. I think this photo here may be the best landscape I've taken this trip!

The sunlight on the lake and the bright blue sky made the water sparkle like nothing else. Did I mention the rivers here are all crystal clear fresh water that you can drink straight from the stream? Cause yeah, they are.

We had a little picnic by the lake with Jo who we met up with there before wandering some more and finding some Sound of Music-esque fields to frolic in.

And then, we cycled again. My butt still hasn't recovered. The round trip was 46km. Gah. What is exercise.

Look at dat crystal clear waterrrrrrrrrrrrr.

In the evening we had a magnificent steak dinner (emagerd). We watched mroemovies and then crashed around 10pm (we are the party people) because we were so exhausted.

The next day was rainy and gross and Bridget and I made the mutual decision to stay in bed or on the couch and watch like 10 movies all day. It was the best. we tried to watch the sound of music butttttt it was in German. Alas.

We had lasagna for lunch again which was so amazing just like before. A new busabout bus came in, and we farewelled our friends. We watched more movies and had roast chicken for dinner. Then we played cards with some new busbabout people (and I taught 24 year olds about Australian politics and world war 2 and what conservative meant and right wing and left wing and what communism is and it was a little bit scary) and Bridget and I played ukulele to drunk people and it was kind of a fun night.

I cannot stress how much I loved this place. Honestly. EVERYONE NEEDS TO COME HERE. E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E.
